He won special fame at ST PANCRAS for his part in the foundation of the local Arts Festival. At BIRMINGHAM he planned the new Central Library and, jointly with Birmingham U and Aston U, a mechanization programme. He was active in the LA and SMCCL, the Library Advisory Council of England and the Literature Panel of the Arts Council.
